THE LAST SHIP to play its final performance on Broadway Saturday, January 24...

THE LAST SHIP will play its final performance on Broadway on Saturday, January 24 at 8 p.m., it has been announced by the musical's producers. Named "Best Musical of 2014" by USA Today, THE LAST SHIP began previews on Broadway on September 29 prior to its official opening on October 26, 2014. When the show concludes its 4-month engagement, it will have played 29 preview performances on Broadway and 105 regular performances at the Neil Simon Theatre (250 W. 52 St.) THE LAST SHIP's music will live on with the Original Broadway Cast Recording, which was recently released on Universal Music Classics and debuted at #1 on Billboard's Cast Albums Chart last week...

BBC: "Sting 'electrifying' in own Broadway musical..."

Singer Sting is "a huge presence" in the Broadway musical he wrote and now appears in, according to one review. The ex-Police frontman is "electrifying in his two big solos" and has had a "galvanising impact" on the cast of The Last Ship, Variety's critic wrote. "Sting seems very much in his element," said USA Today's reviewer, praising the "blazing charisma" he gives his role. The 63-year-old is playing shipyard foreman Jackie White in his self-penned musical until 24 January. Previously lacklustre ticket sales have seen a boost since the singer confirmed he was joining the show for a limited period. According to the New York Times, "weekly takings have gone up by a couple hundred thousand dollars" since his first performance on 9 December. Despite this, its reviewer continued, "Sting's presence doesn't alter the chemistry of the show in any significant way"...

Summer 2015 – Two Festivals in Italy Confirmed!

Two festival performances have been confirmed for Sting's summer 2015 tour! On July 21, he will play the Festival Collisioni in Barolo, followed by the Pistoia Blues Festival in Pistoia on July 24. Tickets will go on sale exclusively to Sting.com fan club members beginning tomorrow, December 20 at 10AM (local time). Sting's musical The Last Ship hit Broadway this fall, so it's no surprise the rocker-turned-composer sat down for an interview with one of the hottest theater critics around – a kindergartner from Arlington, Virginia named Iain Armitage. Armitage began reviewing plays at the age of six, after his mother took him to see Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellan perform in Waiting for Godot. Some 6-year-olds might consider sitting through a two-hour play a punishment, but Iain was mesmerized. Sting will deliver South Shields Lecture...
North-East music icon Sting is to deliver next year's South Shields Lecture. David Miliband has announced that the rock star will be the latest in a long line of big names to give the annual address since he launched it in 2001 during his time as MP for South Shields. Currently starring on New York City's Broadway in his musical The Last Ship, the singer-songwriter will return home to the North East for the event in South Shields on Saturday, February 28, at Harton Technology College. The show, given its premiere in Chicago this year, is inspired by the 63-year-old's childhood memories of growing up beside the Swan Hunter shipyard in Wallsend. Sting, alias Gordon Sumner, said: "I am delighted to accept the invitation to next year's South Shields Lecture. I'm looking forward to visiting the college and meeting the staff and students, and being back on Tyneside."
